A-Level Physics

Physics A-level is both more interesting and more challenging than GCSE physics, and requires students to develop analytical and problem-solving skills at theoretical and practical levels.

Many topics studied at A-level, such as electricity and kinematics/dynamics, build directly on knowledge gained at GCSE while others, like particle physics, photons and lasers, are completely new.

During a typical hour of tuition, a student and I will cover a single topic from the specification. We start by covering some theory, then progress onto ‘drill’ questions so that the student can practise using the physical principles and mathematical formulae involved in the topic. We would then move on to the more challenging and complex past paper questions, and it is by doing these questions that students acquire the analytical and problem-solving skills that are essential for success at A-level physics. The knowledge and techniques learned during the lesson can then be consolidated by the student with the follow up questions that I send after the lesson, an example of which can be accessed by clicking the links below. Also below are adapted formula sheets, which students may find useful while learning a new topic.
